I used to think yoga was stupid, and wondered why anyone would do it. But to be fair, I had never tried it so I shouldn't have judged without knowing. When I was around 25 weeks pregnant in fall of 08, I felt the need to slow down my usual high-paced gym routine. My body felt tight and I didn't feel like I could get myself stretched out properly...so I decided to go to prenatal yoga. I fell in love that first evening. I couldn't believe how challanging it was, and I was in pretty good shape at the time. I enjoyed the way I felt when I left and I also met other girls who were due around the same time as me. The next day I had sore muscles, which once again I couldn't believe since I am a gym rat and was still lifting weights at least 4-5 days/week. How could something I thought was so stupid and couldn't be considered a 'workout' actually give me sore muscles!?
Fast forward to today. I went to yoga at lunch and it felt great. I saw my friend Susan, whom I met in prenatal yoga, and whom I just had over last weekend for a playdate with our girls. My body feels strong and limber, and my mind feels clear. Ahhhh....
